Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday that all universities in the state should make education available from kindergarten to after graduation. He said that the fees of poor children studying in these universities will be paid by the government as he strives for quality education under one roof. The prime minister said this at a two-day conference of university vice chancellors here, according to an official statement.
The conference on education policy, self-employment and management was organized by the Haryana State Higher Education Council. Khattar said a new scheme will soon be introduced whereby the government will pay the expenses of the children belonging to families who have verified an annual income of less than Rs 1.80 lakh.
Under the new education policy, the MDU, Rohtak; Kurukshetra University and Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur, have started offering education from KG level to PG under one roof, Khattar said. The state’s remaining universities also need to work at a rapid pace to provide education in the same pattern so that every youth of the state has easy access to higher education under one roof, the Haryana CM said. Khattar said that the employment-oriented programs in universities should be formulated and that computer education should be made compulsory so that in the current technology age every young person is proficient in computers.
The young people should receive employment-oriented education so that they can get a job after their education. He said the technical education and higher education departments would be merged to provide quality education to the youth.
This will also reduce the unnecessary burden on the government and the youth can receive good quality technical and higher education, according to the CM. The prime minister said emphasis should be placed on making the state’s universities financially robust and self-sufficient so that they are not dependent on government subsidies.
He said the government hires outside agencies for the work of consultants and surveys. In the future, such work will be given to universities, he said, adding that it will increase their incomes.
