Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched an online certificate program on Hinduism titled ‘Introduction to Hinduism’. The course, taught by the varsity’s International Center for Spiritual Studies, will be spread over 200 hours over six months. The course fee is Rs 10,000 and anyone over the age of 16 can enroll in the program through amrita.edu. The first series of courses will start in April 2022.
Lectures by more than 30 prominent scholars provide students with in-depth insights into the texts, traditions, schools of philosophy, and worldviews of Hinduism. This includes expert teachers from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and professors from various universities across India, as well as traditional Brahmachari and Sannyasi scholars of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math. The students will have the opportunity to interact with the scholars through live interactive sessions and group discussions. The course is divided into five units including Introduction, Fundamentals, Literature, Philosophy and Practicalities of Hinduism.

Sivanandan DS, Asst. Prof., Amrita Darshanam, said: “The course offers a bird’s eye view of Sanatan Dharma, one of the most important philosophical systems in the world. The students get an idea of the different texts, traditions and philosophical schools of Hinduism. They will be able to understand and put into practice this ancient spiritual and philosophical wisdom in their personal and social domains.”
Amrita Darshanam also offers a six-week online certificate program in ‘Mahabharata Upanayanam’ and a four-week program in ‘Essence of Hinduism’. About 170 students have enrolled in the Mahabharata course so far and 120 students in Essence of Hinduism. Of these, at least 30-40 students are foreigners.
Amrita Darshanam will also host a two-day advanced public workshop on Mahabharata called Dharma Darshanam in February 2022. The workshop will discuss, ponder and understand Vyāsa’s Mahābhārata.
The International Center for Spiritual Studies also offers a postgraduate program, MA in Philosophy and PhD programs in Philosophy, Spirituality and Interdisciplinary Studies. The center will offer courses on Ramayana Sopanam, Yoga Sethu and Introduction to the Vedic Scriptures.
