Arrange an ad hoc break for teachers so they don’t lose salary after rejoining (Representative image)
The DUTA suggested to the colleges to give the nominal break the day before the completion of 120 days and to admit them again soon after the break.
DUTA has urged the directors of DU colleges to arrange the one-day fictitious break given to the ad hoc teachers after the end of their employment in such a way that they do not suffer a loss of salary after their employment. Under the rules of Delhi University (DU), an ad hoc appointment is made for a maximum of four months. If the requirement persists for more than four months, a college may continue the teacher’s service after a fictitious one day break.
“The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has been brought to the attention that if the four-month (120-day) term of some teachers working on an ad hoc basis expires on the day, it could result in a longer break than the fictitious one-day break, then teachers would have to lose more than a day’s salary in such a case,” the DUTA writes in Friday’s letter. In the letter, DUTA suggested colleges grant the nominal break the day prior to the completion of 120 days and allow it again shortly after the break.

The university currently has more than 4,200 ad hoc teachers in 66 colleges. Last month, Delhi University ordered its colleges to continue the services of existing ad hoc teachers under customary terms “tentatively” in the 2022-23 academic session until regular appointments are made.
