Several students from different parts of Assam were taken to the CID headquarters here on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the investigation into the alleged leak of a class 10 state exam questionnaire, an officer said. The number of arrests in the case remains at three, he said.
“We have detained students, teachers and others all over Assam. They have been taken to Guwahati for further questioning,” the detective said.
However, he declined to share further details.
Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh reached Dibrugarh on Wednesday morning from where about six students have been detained so far.
Speaking to reporters outside the meeting here, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the CID is investigating to determine the cause of the paper leak.
“Some students and others have been arrested or detained so far. But we have to be patient and wait for the CID probe to pass to know where the paper leak came from,” said Pegu.
The opposition congress held a demonstration at the entrance to the Assembly before the start of the day, demanding clarity on whether or not the questionnaire had been leaked.
‘The government told us in the House of Representatives that the exam was canceled because some materials were on WhatsApp. They must clarify what really happened,” said opposition leader Debabrata Saikia.
The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) general science examination for class 10 was canceled late on Sunday evening after reports of the question paper being leaked.
According to a SEBA notification, the canceled general science exam will now be held on March 30.
The Assam police had registered a criminal case and handed over the investigation to the criminal investigation department on Monday.
DGP Singh had said on Twitter on Tuesday that 22 people had been detained from Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sadiya, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
Assam Police spokesman Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan later told PTI that three of those detained for questioning have been arrested for their alleged role in the document leak case.
“They are all from Government Doof and Dumb School, Kahilipara in Guwahati. There were 42 packets of questionnaires intended for the school, but one was missing. This is a good reason to arrest them,” he said. Those arrested include the principal, a teacher and casual employee of the school, Bhuyan, the Assam Police (Law and Order) Inspector General said.
