In that case, students who pass the secondary exam in 2023 and opt for the science stream can choose one or both subjects in their higher professional education programme.
According to the chairman of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), Chiranjib Bhattacharya, the proposal to include the two topics was currently in the discussion stage and the specialists in the council’s internal committee of experts were reviewing various aspects of the proposal, including the syllabus for the two subjects.
Meanwhile, sources from the Ministry of State Education said that all concerned are very eager to introduce these two subjects into the upper secondary syllabus, as both subjects are extremely relevant in the current context, especially for those students who wish to specialize in science or engineering in the field. the graduation and postgraduate phase.

“So it’s always better that the students who want to take these courses in the coming days have a solid foundation in the subjects while they take their higher secondary courses in science,” said an official from the state education ministry.
However, he admitted that it was challenging to effectively introduce these two subjects into the upper secondary syllabus, which was associated with having updated information technology (IT) labs in all upper secondary schools.
Ministry of Education sources said the majority of state-run upper secondary schools already have IT labs and the necessary upgrade of them will be done by the relevant school authorities where these two new subjects are taught. “As for the private schools, those who want to teach these two subjects will do the necessary upgrade of their IT labs at their own expense,” he added.
