A case has been registered against the headmistress of Thane Police School here and her female registrar for allegedly embezzling funds worth more than Rs 20 lakh, an official said on Friday. The crime was registered against school headmistress Smita Rajalakshmi Nair and junior clerk Neelam Milind Kamble, an officer of Thane Nagar Police Station said. The duo were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 467, 468, 471, 475 (all related to counterfeiting). The duo are accused of embezzling funds amounting to Rs 20,53,621, he said.
The school is owned by Thane Police Commissioner’s Office and operated by a private trust, the indictment said, adding that the fraud had taken place between 2008 and 2021. The accused has embezzled funds intended to prepare student ID cards, to pay for additional classes for teachers, Class 12 student enrollment fees, fees for board exam invigilators, student scholarships, the complaint said. A check of the school bills revealed that the duo had committed the fraud, after which the complaint was filed against them by the school trust, police said.
