A government teacher has been arrested and suspended for allegedly beating a 14-year-old Dalit student in Rajasthan’s Pali district, police said Friday. In a similar incident in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, a 5th grade Dalit student was beaten up by a school teacher, police said. The police have filed a complaint against both teachers.
In Pali district, a case of alleged assault on a Dalit student was registered on Thursday evening against Bhanwar Singh, a teacher of the Government Higher Secondary School, Bagdi SHO Bhanwarlal said. He said the case had been registered under Section 151 of the CrPC based on a complaint filed by the student’s relatives and that he had been taken into custody.
The education department has suspended the accused teacher. In Dausa, a case was brought against a government teacher, Rameshwar Gurjar, for beating a fifth grade Dalit student. Manpur Circle Officer Santram said the incident took place on August 6. The student has been examined and the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this month, a nine-year-old Dalit boy was beaten by a schoolteacher in Rajasthan’s Jalore district for allegedly touching a water pot intended for higher castes. The boy later died while being treated at a hospital.
