The number of students applying for the IIM Entrance Exam – Common Admission Test (CAT) has increased by about 11 percent, the exam institute IIM Bangalore reports. The number of applications was about 2.3 lakh in 2021, a slight increase from 2020 when 2.28 lakh.
The IIM Bangalore claims that the increase in the number of applicants is due to “improvements” that the institute has added to the processes related to outreach and registration for the CAT 2022.
For the first time, digital campaigns were launched to raise awareness about the opening of CAT 2022 applications and about extending the deadline to reach a younger and targeted audience, the IIM claims.
CAT 2022 President Prof. Ashis Mishra said, “Student-centric changes will improve CAT registration and other processes, allowing candidates to focus on preparing for the exam itself.”
CAT 2022 Outreach in Northeast
CAT 2022 announcements were released in publications in the Northeast and in all union territories, the IIM claims. Test centers have also been set up in new locations – Northeast (Manipur, Tripura, etc.) and union areas – Lakshadweep, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Ladakh and Leh.
CAT 2022 will be conducted at test centers in 150 test cities across the country. Candidates have been given the option to select six test cities in order of their preference.
Furthermore, two payment gateways are planned for CAT 2022 this year. Usually only an online payment method is allowed.
This year, a non-IIM registration facility is provided on the CAT website. Non-IIM institution logos have also been posted on the CAT website to increase their visibility.
The computer-based test will be conducted in three separate sessions on November 27. Verbal ability and reading comprehension, dta interpretation and logical reasoning, and quantitative ability will be assessed in CAT 2022.
Prof. dr. Ashis Mishra said: “The preparations and conduct of the investigation are being made with continued uncertainty about COVID-19. The information on the CAT website is subject to the decisions and directions issued from time to time by the central and state governments and IIMs. Candidates are advised to regularly check the CAT website for the latest information.”
