The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) today administered the 12th grade physics exam, May 20 had some tricky questions, which average students may find difficult to answer, student experts say. While 60 percent of the students were straightforward, there were quite a few difficult questions, experts add. The paper contained both theory, concepts and application-based questions.
“The exam had questions ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate. 60 percent of the questions were clear, and if the student had prepared well, he should have done well. The questions about the application of beam optics were of a high standard, and average students may have difficulty answering them,” said Priya Roy, PGT-Physics, Modern English School, Guwahati.

“As many as 40 percent of the questions were application questions and a few questions were tricky. However, the students were able to test the paper in time,” said Sanjeev Kumar, HoD Physics, Silverline Prestige School, Ghaziabad.
“The mathematical calculations were simple, but the answer required little extra effort. Questions about semiconductor devices and digital circuits mostly came straight from the NCERT book and ranged from easy to difficult. Most of the questions were similar to those in the sample paper. The paper had an excellent combination of application and memory questions,” Roy added.
“Most of the questions came straight from the NCERT textbook. Only a few questions were difficult. Most of the theory-based questions had the elements of numeric, which is common. Apart from this, concept-based questions and application-based questions were also seen,” said Tilak, a physics teacher at JAIN International Residential School (JIRS), Bengaluru.

Experts also said the paper was a scoring copy and not difficult to crack. “Section A of the paper was easy and based on simple concepts. Some of the questions in Section B came from the solved examples in the NCERT handbook and from CBSE sample papers. Surprisingly, Section B didn’t even contain any distractions. The conceptual questions and figures in Part B were directly based on the topics. Section C included an interesting case study from the Ray Optics (Optical Instruments) chapter,” said Deepak Bhatnagar, PGT – Physics, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Ghaziabad.
