The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will hold class 10 and 12 exams at various schools. This is a reversal from the earlier decision to hold exams at our own schools. Semester 1 CBSE exams took place in respective schools with external tutors appointed to monitor and ensure safe and fair exams. However, many cases of fraud were reported during semester 1 exams.
CBSE Schools Management Association (CSMA) had claimed that many schools had assisted students during the exam. The association claimed that schools asked students to write the letter “c” instead of the questions they didn’t know the answer to. Teachers would then have converted the c to a, b, or d, depending on the correct option. Although CBSE did not confirm these allegations, it had asked schools to stop checking answer sheets on the same day of the exam. The evaluation process has shifted centrally.
Furthermore, covid-19 restrictions have also been relaxed across the country and students can travel to nearby places. This may also have been a consideration when designating different examination centers for students, as has been the practice heretofore.
The CBSE exams for term 2 begin on April 26. The CBSE term 2 admission cards will be released at least 15 days before the exams. The admission card contains exam center and other details related to board exams. Students can expect CBSE term 2 exams at the end of March at cbse.nic.in.
While many students are content to be informed of the exam date in advance, many argue that three months to prepare for an MCQ paper and only one month for a theoretical exam is unfair. Students are also prone to cancel board exams on Twitter.
The results of term 1 are still awaited. CBSE is likely to release the results of term 1 this month, but exam dates for these have not yet been announced. The Term 1 and Term 2 exams have 50 percent of the syllabus. Each term is taken into consideration to create the final result. The final results will only be announced after the exams of period 2 have been taken. No student will be declared a pass or fail based on the period 1 score alone.
