Mahagram, a fintech company, aims to enroll nearly 1 million unemployed youth in the recently launched GramSevak project. The company recently launched a citizen services portal called ‘GramSevak.com’ to provide basic banking and e-governance services at the doorstep to all citizens living in rural and urban parts of India.
According to the company, the said services will be provided by digitally-assisted foot-on-the-street representatives dubbed “Mahagram Sevak.” These “Mahagram Sevaks” earn a commission for the services they provide through the portal, the company said in its press release.

Commenting on this initiative, Mahagram CEO Ram Shriram said that all GramSevak working on the project will be compensated in the form of commission for their services offered to the citizens through the GramSevak.com Portal. Citizens can use the GramSevak.com platform to access e-governance, banking and insurance services with the support of their local GramSevak representatives. Mahagram hopes to enroll nearly 1 million unemployed youth in the GramSevak project, which will provide them with a source of regular income.
The program aims to increase the ratio and habit of household savings in rural India by targeting rural women as they are the ones who run the household, the company’s press release said.

The GramSevak.com portal has been designed and developed with rural consumers in mind and through its assisted model citizens can use these services despite not having any technical or financial knowledge. We aim to serve 300 million unbanked people to bring them under financial inclusion,” the release added. The company’s services will be provided to both urban and rural populations.
Mahagram, the fintech firm, has claimed to enable mom-and-pop store around the corner banking through fintech solutions. The company’s mission is to empower rural women to save money at the local Kirana stores, rather than travel miles to the nearest bank branch, the release added. It is the initiative of GramSevak.com to provide employment to 1 million unemployed Indian youth.
