“I’m in touch with the administration,” Mann said, urging people not to believe rumours. According to police, students at a private university in Mohali, Punjab, protested “rumors” that some offensive videos of several female students had been recorded.
The protest took place after midnight on the campus of the University of Chandigarh, on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road. During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that a female student who had been detained had shared her own video with someone allegedly from Himachal Pradesh, whose role is also under investigation, according to Mohali Police Superintendent Vivek Sheel Soni.
He stated that an FIR had been filed under IPC Section 354-C (voyeurism) and the IT Act, and that the female student had been detained. The university administration denies reports that videos of several female students were taken and shared on social media. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the national organizer of the Aam Aadmi Party, has stated that those involved in the incident will face severe penalties.
“At Chandigarh University, a girl recorded despicable videos of several female students and made them viral. This is very serious and shameful. All perpetrators involved in this will receive the most severe punishment. Victim girls need to be brave. We are all with you. Everyone should act with patience,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.
