Jammu and Kashmir, President of the People’s Conference, Sajad Lone, on Wednesday called the government’s decision to close schools run by the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) “discriminatory” and said it was taking selective action against institutions with religious affiliations. was extremely unfair and unjust. On Monday, an order was passed by Jammu and Kashmir, the school’s education secretary, BK Singh, ordering the cessation of academic activities in FAT-affiliated schools and asking the chief education officers of various districts to update the institutions. to be sealed within 15 days in consultation with the district administrations.
“Selective action against institutions that have religious affiliations is downright unfair and unjust. The government must understand that JK is a predominantly Muslim majority state. They cannot possibly ban every institution because they are prejudiced against Muslims,” Lone said here. Noting the move was discriminatory, he said: “It appears they are deliberately targeting Kashmiris for small electoral gains in the rest of the country.” According to the officials, the FAT is an affiliate of the radical group Jamat-e-Islami (JeI) that has been banned by the Ministry of Interior under the provisions of the Prevention of Illegal Activities Act.
When questioned, Lone said the now-suspended BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma about the Prophet Muhammad was absolutely shameful and reprehensible. “It is unfortunate that the BJP is sensitive to the criticism of the Arab countries while completely ignoring the feelings of Muslims living in India. It is a shame that the BJP only apologized when there was diplomatic resistance from Muslim countries.
“Ideally in a democracy, the government should have taken voluntary action against its spokesmen for hurting the religious feelings of Muslim citizens of this country,” he said. Lone claimed that the “misery” of the common people was getting worse by the day and said the government should move beyond rhetoric and make sincere efforts to work with the people of Jammu and Kashmir for a lasting solution to the current challenges .
“The situation is tense and there is palpable fear…. We have also seen such phases in the past. However, there is a certain detachment with which the current government is identified,” he said. Earlier in the day, more than three dozen National Conference workers from Kupwara district joined the People’s Conference.
