The University of Delhi admission process will be thoroughly overhauled if the university’s executive council approves the proposal to enroll students, who have obtained sufficient marks in class 12 and passed the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). According to officials, the proposal, which has already been approved by the academic council, is also likely to receive a green signal from board members today.
Nine of the 26 elected members of the academic council had opposed the proposal. Until last year, the university only enrolled those students who crossed the threshold. The university’s academic board, in its meeting on Monday, approved that admission to the varsity will be based on CUET scores and that a candidate only needs to have approved class 12.

As per the guidelines of the DU, candidates are only allowed to take CUET in those subjects they have passed in Class 12. If the subject studied in Class 12 is not in CUET, the candidate must appear in a subject that is similar or closely related is on it. Merit is calculated based on a combination of subjects in which a candidate has appeared in CUET as stated in the course-specific eligibility, the guidelines say.
The approved rules also state that admission to minority institutions such as St Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College will also be conducted through CUET. During the counseling, separate merit lists will be generated for non-reserved and minority candidates as per the reservation policies of such colleges. This is also discussed during the meeting of the Executive Council, the highest decision-making body of the university. Once approved here, a policy is implemented. The EC will also discuss the establishment of the Delhi School of Analytics (DSA) under the Institutes of Eminence.
The DSA is likely to offer short- and long-term certificate courses, degrees, and degrees that will enhance students’ business analytical skills. A proposal on loans from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) will also be discussed during the meeting.
Delhi University plans to submit a proposal of Rs 1,075.40 crore to HEFA for infrastructure development and capital asset creation. The HEFA funding pattern requires the university to repay the loan in 20 biennial installments over 10 years.
The university said it has received a very limited allocation for capital asset creation over the past three to five years and has been unable to purchase lab equipment. It also stressed that the condition of the buildings is in a dilapidated state. The Ministry of Education has already said that major infrastructure projects will only be financed through HEFA and that no funds will be released as budget support.
