An investigation found that money was collected from parents under the pretext of giving access to their wards at the Dr. SM CSI Medical College, said the Enforcement Directorate.
“However, no admission was given even after taking money,” it claimed.
Part of the said money was used for the development of the medical college’s infrastructure and the remaining amount was “diverted” to its parent organization – the Diocese of South Kerala (SKD), the agency said. The Federal Investigation Bureau said, “Bennet Abraham and A Dharmaraj Rasalam had obtained/obtained the proceeds of a crime totaling Rs 95,25,000 by committing the planned crime.” However, the ED said that as the “crime income” generated by Abraham and A Dharmaraj Rasalam through the college had been exhausted and not available for garnishment, an equivalent amount has been seized from the bank account of the college for the time being after a preliminary injunction was issued on Tuesday under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
