Education as the most powerful tool for change and the knowledge gained through it brings to the fore the ability to maintain the inherent unity and sense of unity among Indians amid a “superficial diversity,” Kerala Governor said, Arif Mohammed Khan, Saturday. “Despite the long period of slavery, India has managed to rescue and protect its ancient wisdom,” he said at a seminar hosted here by the University of Delhi (DU).
Khan said that education is what brings in knowledge and it is the knowledge that makes an individual a human being in the real sense. “From the time of (Swami) Vivekananda and (Rabindranath) Tagore, our ethos and guiding principles, reflecting our cultural background, have emphasized the idea of an inclusive India. Pleasure is not the core of life, but the aim of life is the pursuit of knowledge,” he said.
India has been a living example of an ongoing civilization, where our culture and ethos age, but do not grow old, he emphasized. “Only through knowledge arises the ability to maintain the inherent unity, the sense of unity among the Indians, in the midst of a superficial diversity. It is our ability to learn from the past and adapt to the future that makes our civilization continuous,” he noted.
Khan was the main guest at the farewell ceremony of the three-day seminar. The governor said that the realization of renunciation and service to humanity comes only through knowledge and learned is the one who has the true meaning of these values. As part of the centenary celebrations, the International Seminar on Rethinking Ideas from ‘Swaraj’ to ‘New India’ is organized by the Department of Political Science of Delhi University. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman, ICCR was a special guest at the farewell ceremony of the seminar, while the function was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Yogesh Singh.
“It is the educational institutions and the universities, which, through intensive research, will be the makers of technology as it is the technology that alone has the potential to make India a Vishwa Guru like the dream and focus of all Indians today the day is. ‘ said the VC in his address.
