Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the National Apprenticeship Mela in more than 700 locations in the country. More than 4,000 organizations from more than 30 industries, including energy, retail, telecommunications, IT/ITeS, electronics, automotive and others, participated in the event.
The internship will take place every month and aims to attract more than 10 lakh trainees, the minister has said. “Going forward, the PM National Apprenticeship Mela will be a monthly affair. A digital dashboard will be set up to further streamline the learning process and connect our young people to relevant opportunities in the 21st century. Our aim will be to ensure that more than 10 lakh interns work as apprentices in companies and take this opportunity to earn while learning and find their gateway to the industry,” he added.
Individuals who have completed Grades 5 to 12, Certificate of Skills Training, ITI Diploma, or Graduate Diploma are eligible to participate in the Internship Scholarship. A young and ambitious workforce has been given a choice of more than 500 occupations, including welder, electrician, housekeeper, beautician, mechanic and others. They were offered an internship offer on site with monthly allowances according to government standards.
“The main aim of this program was to encourage the hiring of approximately one lakh apprentices and help employers identify and develop their potential through training and practical skills,” the official press release reads.
After that, they get a monthly stipend according to government standards for developing new skills, an opportunity to earn as they learn. The candidates receive certificates, recognized by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), which increase the chances of their employability after training.
“After 34 years, we have established a new education policy which is a roadmap for the transformation of India in this AmritKaal. Academic credit will be awarded to learners that can be used for future pathways. We need to make apprenticeship a participatory movement to educate, educate and retrain young India, boost per capita economic productivity and drive national missions,” said Pradhan.
Small-scale industries with a minimum of four working members can also hire apprentices at the event. A credit bank concept will also be introduced shortly, preserving the various credits accumulated by learners for them to use for future academic pathways.
On the occasion, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, said: “Apprenticeship is one of the most sustainable models and the concept is central to creating an enabling partnership between the government, the ecosystem for delivering of skills and the employment ecosystem. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship made extensive reforms to the Apprenticeship Act and Apprentices Rules in 2014 and 2015 and now it should be regarded as a dynamically evolving platform to connect the skilling ecosystem with both those who become skilled as those who seek skilled talent. The apprenticeship model should also be considered as an important industry feedback mechanism to make the ecosystem more demand-driven and impactful.PM National Apprenticeship Melas will serve as a strong platform for the in connecting industry with young people.”
