Student enrollment in Mizoram government schools has increased significantly as educational institutions reopened after being closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a state minister said. Mizoram reopened schools for all classes on Tuesday.
“The state government has taken several steps to improve the education system and recruit more teachers, which in turn prompted parents to send their children to government schools,” said Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte. At a meeting in the village of Sakawrdai in the northeastern part of the state bordering Manipur, Ralte said the number of students enrolled in government schools has increased significantly, according to reports received from several schools in the state.
He said the number of schools in some schools is doubling and new classrooms need to be built or the capacity of the existing ones needs to be increased in a few places.
