The UK-based University of Essex announced a free online masterclass series on Thursday on how data can revolutionize businesses, services and products. The online masterclass ‘Flooded with data: what can companies do with the enormous amounts of data they collect’ can take place on 25 April.
The free online masterclass covers important topics in data analytics for businesses. The sessions cover Business Analytics, Data in Agrifood Businesses, International Marketing, big data in finance and show how even small businesses can use data. Participants who attend four of the five sessions will receive a certificate of attendance, the institute claims. Interested parties can register at www.essex.ac.uk.
The 90-minute masterclass will be hosted by several Essex Business School experts, who will talk about the impact of data on each business area and what it looks like in both theory and practice.
Professor Ram Ramanathan, director of the MSc business analytics course at Essex, will be one of the speakers. Professor Ramanathan is leading a major European research project on improving the resource efficiency of agribusiness supply chains by minimizing waste through Big Data and Internet of Things sensors, the university reports in its publication.
Ramanathan points out that this session is extremely relevant in the Indian context, he says: “Big data analysis could prevent about 67 million tons of food being wasted annually in India, worth about Rs 92,000 crores. It will be enough to feed all of Bihar for a year.”
Professor Ramanathan added: “Our courses are designed to provide students with an introduction to the study of business and data at the postgraduate level and introduce them to current important topics in these areas of research.” “These issues are absolutely central to Indian companies right now as they want to harness the power of data in an ethical way,” he adds.
Apart from this, there are other sessions on various topics including how data can help agrifood companies understand the full length of their supply chain with Professor Ramakrishnan Ramanathan, Data and methodological issues for new insights in international marketing with Dr. Rebecca (Yu) Li and watch even the smallest companies collect data with Dr. Marta Fernandez DeArroyabe Arranz.
