A Kerala student was allegedly drugged and raped before being abandoned in a mountain pass in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, police said on Friday. The incident was reported May 30 from Thamarassery in the state’s Northern District and a suspect in the case has been identified, officials added.
Police said a detailed investigation has been launched after recording the victim’s statement. They said the suspect would be apprehended soon and that the investigation is also looking into whether more people are involved in the incident. The woman, a first-year student, was reportedly left behind on a bend of the Thamarassery churam (mountain pass) that connects the wealthy of Wayanad to Kozhikode after being drugged and raped, they said.
According to police, the woman, who was staying as a paying guest near her university under the Thamarassery police station limit, had left for her home on May 30. When she did not return home, the relatives filed a missing person report with the police. Police. While the investigation was ongoing, the woman contacted her relatives and was rescued.
