Three teachers from a private school in the city of Pune allegedly punched and beat three class 10 students for causing a riot in the classroom, after which an investigation was launched by police, an official said Sunday. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the teachers under the Juvenile Justice Act following a complaint filed by the father of one of the three students at the Samarth police station, the official said.
According to the FIR, on July 28, one of the teachers beat the three students in their classroom at the school with canes. The students were taken to the teachers’ lounge where the teacher and his two colleagues beat them.
They also threatened the students that they would get low grades in internal exams. The complaint was filed after the students told their parents about the beating, the official said, adding that the students were undergoing medical examination at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune.
The teachers are booked under the Youth Act. No arrests were made in the case on Sunday, the official said.
