Shehbaz Sherif elected Prime Minister of Pakistan
After former Prime Minister Imran Khan lost a vote of no confidence in the Pakistani parliament on April 10 after nearly four years in office, Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother, has been elected as the new Prime Minister. Nawaz Sharif is the predecessor of Imran Khan. Shehbaz Sharif is from the main opposition party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. No prime minister in Pakistan’s history has ever been impeached by a vote of no confidence. In addition, no one has ever served a full five-year term in office.
Occasional adultery by wife does not entitle them to alimony
The Delhi High Court has ruled that one or occasional adultery committed by a woman in seclusion does not amount to living in adultery. It does not exempt them from alimony after divorce. Only repeated acts of adultery and cohabitation in adultery would attract the severity of the provision under 125(4) of the CrPc. The Supreme Court said that the grounds of cruelty and intimidation do not constitute grounds for non-payment of alimony and noted that even in cases where a divorce is awarded on the grounds of cruelty, courts have awarded alimony to the woman.
Vanguard dethrones Elon Musk as Twitter’s largest shareholder
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was Twitter’s largest shareholder at 9.2 percent on April 4, has been dethroned by the Vanguard group. It has acquired a 10.3 percent stake in Twitter. The company now owns 82.4 million shares of the social media platform. However, Musk is Twitter’s largest individual shareholder, followed by the platform’s co-founder Jack Dorsey.
West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra bypolls
The Trinamool Congress won both Asansol bypolls and Shatrughan Sinha won the seat by more than three lakh votes. TMC also won the Ballygunge poll, with Babul Supriyo winning over 20,000 votes. While Congress won the bypoll to Kolhapur North constituency in Maharashtra. Congress also won the bypoll from Chhattisgarh to the Khairagarh assembly constituency, with Yashoda Verma beating BJP’s Komal Janghel. The RJD won the Bochahan assembly seat in Bihar.
