The government of West Bengal claims to have adopted all 422 students and three state workers rescued from Ukraine. In an official statement, the state government claimed that of the total returnees, 412 were medical students, including 409 MBBS and three dental students. In addition, six engineers, a veterinary student and three workers were rescued from Ukraine. They were all shot in India itself and may not need to return to Ukraine.
The chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee claims the central government remains “indifferent” to these students. The state has made special provisions for citizens returning to Ukraine.
“We tried our best to accommodate most of them in our pvt and govt medical/technical colleges. We housed them on humane grounds. The Modi government is indifferent to the future of Ukraine-returned medical students,” Banerjee said.
The state government said all six engineering students have been offered seats in private engineering colleges under the JIS group, two of them have already joined their college and others are in the process of joining.
One student who has completed his studies is allowed to continue his internship at the Govt Dental College, Kolkata while the remaining two students who are enrolled in the second year of their medical education, are allowed to attend observership and practical classes at the Govt Dental Colleges in the stands.
The veterinary medicine student is admitted to the WB University of Animal & Fishery Sciences from the next session.
Two persons are housed as DRW (Casual worker) at Nadia DM office. Their families also get a loan to start a small business; the third person has left for a job in Dubai.
Among the medical students, 23 are in their sixth year and are allowed to do internships at Government Medical Colleges according to the standard. In their fifth and fourth year, these will be allowed to follow the ‘Observation Seat’ in a distributed manner at various medical colleges. About 15-20 students will be assigned to each state college.
Those in the second and third year of medicine are allowed to take “practical classes” with different governments. Medical Colleges in a Distributed Way. All those who are NEET qualified for the current year (2021) are allowed to immediately appear for counseling at our private medical colleges against the management’s quota for new admission. Universities of applied sciences have been requested to make concessions to the fees charged for these students, the state government said.
