The Indian government launched Anganwadi as part of the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS). Anganwadi is a primary health care and education center in rural India that focuses on the health of pregnant women and nursing mothers, as well as child health care.
The important services provided by them are primary health checks and immunization, complementary nutrition and education to people (especially women) about family planning, health and wellness. An Anganwadi worker is usually a resident of the same village and has completed at least primary school.
Anganwadi employees have the following responsibilities:
Employees must ensure that members of the community participate and work together. They must also keep track of all children and pregnant mothers.
They also provide informal education to young people from the age of six.
They help Mahila Mandal and programs like Kishori Shakti Yojana (for teenage girls).
