Under this scheme, schools with a pass rate of less than 30 percent in the Gujarat Board examinations were penalized with a deduction of Rs 100 per student. However, after a policy change in 2015, subsidy schools with less than 30 percent results in grades 10 or 12 were not eligible for a maintenance subsidy at all.

The government of Gujarat has decided to withhold subsidies from its grant-in-aid schools if the school performs poorly in Gujarat Board class 10 and 12 results. A deduction of Rs 300 instead of Rs 100 per student will be made for poor performance in management results. Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced the decision via his Twitter page and said that the decisions taken to improve the outcome and quality of education in the state have imposed a fine of Rs 100 per student in scholarships under the results-based scholarship policy, which has now been hiked at Rs 200 per student annually.
Introduced in August 2013, the performance-related scholarship policy of the Government of Gujarat linked school allowances to students’ performance in grade 10 and 12 exams. Schools with a pass mark of 70 percent or more were eligible for a 100 percent grant.
The latest announcement brings the policy back to the original model, but with some changes.
