A number of tech majors have expressed plans to add more employees in the January to March quarter of 2022. Starting with HCL Technologies Ltd, which has decided to aggressively ramp up this fiscal year, recruiting more than 20,000-22,000 new hires.
Livemint cited a request from HCL Technologies and reported that the decision came after demand for technology services continued to outpace supply. It has been hiring new employees at a rapid pace as it had net gains of 10,143 in the quarter, bringing its total headcount to 197,777.

HCL Technologies is not the only IT giant to take this step, TCS, Infosys and Wipro have hired more than 1 lakh employees during this fiscal year and have further announced to continue their recruitment campaign in FY2022. While announcing their Q3 results, TCS, Infosys and Wipro revealed that they hired a record 1.7 lakh employees last year. This major spike comes as India gradually shifts to digital during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In announcing its results for the December 2021 quarter, Infosys said it will hire 55,000 freshmen in FY2022 as part of the company’s global gratitude program to support its growth ambitions.

On the other hand, Wipro has set a target of hiring 30,000 freshmen by FY2023 as the IT major wants to ensure supply is not a barrier in managing the market’s robust demand. For FY2022, the company plans to hire approximately 17,500.
While TCS has not announced a specific number of freshmen they will be hiring, the Tech giant has made it clear that it will continue its aggressive hiring drive. The chief human resource officer, Milind Lakkad, said: “The hiring intensity will continue, but we don’t have a specific number for the next quarter.” India’s largest software exporter recently reached the milestone of a workforce of 2,000,000 employees.
