Only two Indian business schools have made it to The Economist’s full-time MBA ranking in 2022. The Indian platoon is led by the Indian School of Business (ISB), which took the 75th position. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has been ranked 99th out of a total of 100 ranked universities. In addition, no fewer than nine of the top 10 positions have been taken by American b-schools.
In The Economist’s 2021 MBA rankings, IIM-Ahmedabad was ranked 51st and ISB ranked 44th. IIM-Ahmedabad was the only participating institute from India in 2019 and was ranked 75th. While the IIM Ahmedabad has consistently fallen in its position on the ranking index, ISB has jumped back into the race after a massive fall. However, IIM-A has consistently been on the list over the years.

The Economist states that America’s B-schools have returned after a year-long hiatus, which is why all those B-schools that had the highest ranks last year have fallen. “US MBA programs occupy the top spots in this year’s rankings after returning from a one-year hiatus. That’s why the full-time MBA ranking 2022 looks strikingly different. Those that are in good shape in 2021 have been pushed down hard to make way for a new top five,” says The Economist.
More than two-thirds of the top 50 b schools are from the US. The full-time MBA at Harvard Business School took first place, followed by programs at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in second and third place, respectively.
