First, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) Raipur has overturned the gender equation by admitting more girls than boys into the postgraduate management course for the 2022-24 academic session. IIM Raipur admitted 62.1 percent female students and 37.9 percent male students for the current academic year.
Even in 2021, IIM Raipur remained the first in enrolling more female students than other IIMs. Last year, however, the number of boys was higher.
The Ministry of Education praised the institution in a tweet, writing: “IIM Raipur has overturned the gender equation by admitting more girls than boys despite the gender-neutral admission process, an achievement worth pursuing for other institutes. Many IIMs are also moving towards more gender-balanced classrooms.”

According to a report in Economic Times, nearly a third of upcoming postgraduate program batches at the top IIMs this year are women.
The PG 2022-24 batch at IIMs such as Calcutta, Indore, Bangalore and Kozhikode has at least 30 percent females, which is about the same as the 2021-2023 batch. The 2022 PG shooting is almost over, so the female stats are unlikely to rise significantly. IIM Ahmedabad’s PG batch has a female representation of 23 percent this year, down from 28 percent last year, while Kozhikode has increased the representation of female students from 38 percent to 46 percent.
In addition, these management institutes have also committed to increasing diversity on their campuses. In this regard, IIM Calcutta has introduced a “Gender Diversity Policy” that allows four additional points to ensure gender diversity after the minimum general and other academic requirements are met. In addition, IIM Kozhikode Director Debashis Chatterjee has announced 50 excess seats for international candidates for his three PG offers.
