The Center for Science and Society of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal, has applied for a five-day short summer camp on its campus. The summer camp, intended for students in grades 9 to 12, will begin on May 16 at the IISER campus in Bhauri, Bhopal and will last until May 20.
Candidates can register for the camp online on or before April 15 on the IISER website. According to IISER Bhopal, the aim of the summer camp is to give participants an insight into the central role of science in society. Students are offered an introduction to various subjects in the natural and engineering sciences through lectures and laboratory exercises. The exposure is also complemented by critical perspectives from the Humanities and Social Sciences. The participants have the opportunity to get in touch with senior students on campus through various fun activities.

The summer camp has a limited number of seats and candidates are selected through a screening round based on merit and representation from different schools. The list of shortlisted candidates will be shared online on the institute’s website upon completion of the screening process by April 22. After the initial screening, selected candidates are required to pay a registration fee of Rs 2000 through SBI iCollect.
This registration fee includes the costs of food and lodging for the participants during their stay. The camp also has doctors on campus (24 hours) to ensure the personal health and well-being of all participants
The IISER summer camp had been suspended since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The summer camp was scheduled to take place between May 11 and May 16, 2020, but had to be canceled due to the deteriorating pandemic situation.
