A plea has been made to the Supreme Court by candidates who appeared in JEE Advanced 2020 and 2021 but failed to qualify or qualified with a low rank. According to the petition, the students have challenged the Dec. 30, 2021 JEE Advanced notice, making them ineligible for an additional chance to appear for IIT admission, Live Law reported.
The candidates have demanded to be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2022. According to the announcement of the Joint Admission Board (JAB), on December 30 last year, it gives students one more chance to appear for the JEE Advanced in only three cases.
According to JAB notice, 2020 batch students who did not register for the JEE Main in both 2020 and 2021 can appear for JEE Advanced 2022. Those who registered for the JEE Main in 2020 or 2021 but not eligible came for the main one or both times and those who qualified for the JEE Main in 2020 and 2021 but did not register or appear in JEE Advanced in those two years are also eligible for the exam this year. Every year, JEE Main’s top 2.5 lakh candidates are allowed to appear in front of the IIT entrance.

According to the plea filed through AOR Sachin Sharma, the students who failed to qualify for JEE Advanced or who qualified but received a low grade did not qualify JAB’s notice against SC’s judgment in the Vijay Lakshmi v Punjab University 2003 (8) SCC 440 case. In which the apex court had noted that when the circumstances are different, the issue of unequal treatment does not arise.
“In the present case, there is no change in the circumstances under which easing is given to the students who did not qualify for the Preparatory Exam – JEE (Main) and could not sit for JEE (Advanced) by default, and to those who did did qualify JEE (Main) but not registered for JEE (Advanced), and to those who did not even register for JEE (Main) in the first place, but such easing is denied to the petitioners herein who both times JEE (Main) ) qualified and appeared in JEE (Advanced) both times in 2020 and 2021 under the same conditions,” the plea said, the news reported daily.
