An alumnus of IIT Bombay, Indian-American Raj Subramaniam, was set to become FedEx’s new Chief Executive Officer, according to an announcement made Monday by the US multinational courier delivery giant.
Subramaniam, is one of many Indians who have secured a top position in an internationally renowned company. Most of the top Indian bosses who currently head global corporate giants are from IITs, including Subramaniam who pursued his BTech in chemical engineering from IIT Bombay in 1987, has replaced Frederick W Smith, chairman and CEO, who will resign from this position at 1 June. He now becomes the executive chairman.

Raj Subramaniam a native of Trivandrum, Kerala, was educated at Loyola School in Thiruvananthapuram and after obtaining his BTech degree he moved to obtain his masters degree in chemical engineering from Syracuse University in 1989. Subramaniam’s education didn’t stop there, he also pursued an MBA in Marketing/Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. The 56-year-old, who now lives in Memphis, Tennessee, has been the president of FedEx Express in Canada and in several other management and marketing roles in Asia and the US since joining FedEx in 1991.
Parag Agrawal is the new CEO of Twitter. He is studying at IIT-Bombay after being admitted to Stanford University to pursue a PhD in computer science. He also took on leadership roles at Microsoft Research and Yahoo Research.
Bhavish Aggarwal graduated in 2008 for a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from IIT-Bombay. He started his career at Microsoft. In January, he co-founded Ola booths with Ankit Bhati in Bengaluru
Parul Gupta graduated from IIT Bombay in electrical engineering. She worked as Executive Board of IIT Bombay Alumni Association. She serves as president at Springboard, a platform that encourages learning and provides an alternative to the education system.
