IIT Delhi hosted an Academic Outreach Day on Saturday for teachers and students from the Haryana government’s technical universities and colleges at the Sonipat campus in the state.
Organized by the Institute’s Academic Outreach and New Initiatives office, the one-day program was attended by more than 300 students and teachers and included lectures from the faculty of IIT Delhi. The event also showcased research work (models and prototypes) by the researchers and start-ups.
Speaking about the Academic Outreach event, Anand M. Sharan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of Government, Haryana Higher Education and Technical Education Department, said: “At the Sonipat campus of IIT Delhi, several state-of-the-art research facilities are functional, providing the students and faculty of various technical institutes of Haryana.This is the first Academic Outreach Day, which aims to inform you about the research facilities available here so that you can inform your colleagues.The industry in the state can also use the facilities provided are available here for their research work. The IIT Delhi Sonipat campus is growing and I am hopeful that in the future it will benefit both the technical institutes and industry in the state.”
On this occasion, the IIT Delhi researchers presented their work on biomass pellet-based clean combustion equipment, covid-19 rapid antigen kit, and the development of a multimodal endoscope for early oral cancer screening among others. Optics Student Chapter also showed interesting demonstrations on 3D rendering, diffractive optics, etc.

Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, said: “We are excited about collaborating with the students and teachers of Haryana. We are fortunate to have extension campuses in Sonipat and Jhajjar. At Sonipat, we have created research facilities that are accessible to all researchers across the country.At Jhajjar, we intend to focus on healthcare and create a bio-hub that can partner with the National Cancer Institute and AIIMS Jhajjar.Today’s outreach day is an initiative to bring the faculty and students of Haryana, show the facilities and get a glimpse of IIT Delhi research and get students excited about research.”

Pritha Chandra, Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives, IIT Delhi, said: “According to an MoU between the state of Haryana and IIT Delhi, the latter has a mandate to guide the state government’s technical colleges and universities. The Institute is committed to organizing more such events where IIT Delhi faculty and students can interact with students and teachers in Haryana and jointly contribute to the advancement of higher education in the state.
