The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has teamed up with the Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation (JCKIF) to host “Udbhaas” from September 24 to 26, 2022. The Union Minister of Jal Sakthi, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, has the Center for Sustainable Drinking Water, Dharohar – the Phygital Craft Museum and Craft Exhibition and Sale, on the occasion.
Union Minister of Jal Sakthi Gajendra Singh Shekhawat addressed the people of Jodhpur and stated: “I would like to start by congratulating IIT Jodhpur for developing and organizing the multi-sector program “Udbhaas-Jal Aur Jeevan.”
Professor Santanu Chaudhury, Director of IIT Jodhpur and Chairman of the Board of JCKIF, highlighted the event: “JCKIF is an important part of the innovation system at IIT Jodhpur. It aims to be a catalyst for knowledge and innovation-driven inclusive and sustainable growth of Jodhpur and the neighboring areas, establishing a Center for Sustainability of Drinking Water, supported by Jal Jeevan Mission to provide innovative support to address the core problem of drinking water in Jodhpur.”
“In addition, IIT Jodhpur is also developing a digital archive for preserving Jodhpur’s artisanal forms and knowledge through the use of technological and managerial interventions. From developing crafts-centric business models to developing advanced technology to enable the rise of the consumer and related trade, some of the initiatives are in the same area,” added Professor Chaudhury during his speech.
One of the five centers supported by the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) Ministry of Jal Shakti is the Center for Sustainable Drinking Water, with an emphasis on sustainability in drinking water sources. The center’s mission is to increase capacity and promote outreach, research and education (CORE).
To promote innovation, entrepreneurship and the incubation of craft-related livelihoods during Udbhaas, Project Craft, a vertical dedicated to the protection, conservation and promotion of indigenous crafts and artisans, is organizing a discussion series and a hackathon competition.
