IIT Kanpur’s Artificial Intelligence and Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship (AIIDE) – Center of Excellence (CoE) in Noida has incubated the Lucknow-based think tank Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF), which is working to develop a first of its kind AI-powered big data search engine to help with police work.
The search engine is intended to facilitate the investigation and police process. It will integrate the data from all key stakeholders to create a search engine, which will aid in predictive policing, crime mapping and analysis.
The search will aid in crime mapping, crime patterns analysis, behavioral study, crime prediction, future strategy, synergy of critical data, integrated database, real-time action, dark web and social media analytics, defaulter identification and geo-special intelligence .
“Fraud and crime are one of the most important societal problems, Shashank Shekhar – CEO of Future Crime Research Foundation develops predictive policing methods using AI, now we can better understand crime and solve it faster. We are committed to promoting AI- startups in UP, I am grateful to GoUP for their support for Center of AI in Noida,” said Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, CEO – IIT Kanpur (FIRST, AIIDE and C3i Hub).
A vast amount of crime data is available to the government in the form of files, FIR, indictment sheets, repossession memos, conviction memos, arrest memos, crime (case/incident) data, criminal data, the police station data records chambers and information about citizen complaints, says the institute.
Apart from the data available from the central and government agencies, massive data available from banks, BFSI, ISP, telecom, transportation and other critical agencies goes unused. The Internet is a new gold mine of data, the dark web, social media and other open source platforms are full of data sources that are virgin territory, it adds.
The FCRF is building a platform where data from all vital organizations and institutions are linked together. With the click of a button, they can find full details that will help with the investigation.
“We will collect all the necessary data from many sources and create a single platform that can perform data analysis using regression models, data mining and artificial intelligence, as well as provide insight into the crime pattern unique to a particular region,” said Shashank Shekhar, co-author founder, FCRF.
“AIIDE Center of Excellence will incubate startups from various sectors, including those leveraging AI/ML for policing and crime prevention, healthcare, education, logistics and several others,” said Ankit Saxena, Senior Manager, AIIDE Center of Excellence and FIRST IIT Kanpur .
