IIT Madras Pravartak Foundation, the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Madras, offers upskilling courses for students to build a career in banking and finance.
All students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree or have completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and with a passion to excel in the BFSI domain are eligible to take these certification courses. Students who take these certification courses can take the various certification exams administered by NISM, NSE, BSE, and IIBF.
The courses are offered in partnership with Digital Skills Academy, an initiative of IIT Madras, with InFactPro, a leading Finance Sector Certified trainer in Chennai. InFactPro is a training partner of the Banking and Financial Services and Insurance Sector Skill Council of the Ministry of Skills Development.
These courses are taught by some of the most experienced educators in industry and academia, the IIT claims. Prof. dr. M. Thenmozhi, Head of the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras, and former Director of the National Institute of Securities Markets founded by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), is the lead faculty member for the course on ‘Premier Banker. ‘ dr. Balaji Iyer, former Vice President of ICICI Securities with two decades of experience in leading banks, will serve as co-lead faculty for several courses.
Nearly 30 lakh aspirants write several bank recruitment exams every year with only 0.5 percent approving them. Demand for banking and financial services is increasing in tier 2 and tier 3 cities and, of course, the demand for training professionals is also increasing in these cities, the IIT claims.
Prof. dr. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras and Chairman of IIT Madras Pravarthak Foundation, congratulated the team for providing courses: “These courses will reach students from all parts of our country and especially the most remote part of India where it is reach of digital literacy is minimal and will help everyone stay ahead of their chosen career paths.”
Furthermore, Prof. Kamakoti: “As our nation strives to rapidly evolve into a $5 trillion economy, it is important that such skills development courses are offered by leading institutions and the industry jointly, to help the students aspiring to build of a career in banking and finance.”
Prof. dr. K. Mangala Sunder, Chief Coordinator of the Digital Skills Academy, Center for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT Madras, continued working on these courses, saying: “It is important for college graduate students to build BFSI domain expertise These certification courses provide an in-depth understanding of the principles of banking and finance, mutual funds, equity derivatives, digital banking, securities trading and risk management.
