The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has completed its pre-placements for this academic year and the offer will increase in 2022-23. The university has seen the total number of PPOs increase by more than 23 percent compared to last year. This year is the highest PPO offered in terms of salary from Uber.
69 PPOs have already been made (as at November 16, 2022) to IIT Mandi students during the 2022-23 academic year, against 56 offers throughout the entire 2021-22. The PPOs will continue until the start of Phase I of Campus Placements, scheduled for December 1, 2022.
The institute has introduced the provision of six-month internships for students, which has led to a significant increase in the number of semester-long internships. This immediately resulted in a higher number of Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) for Bachelor’s students. The constant increase in PPOs is a result of the excellent performance of students during their internships.
Dr. Tushar Jain, Counselor, Careers and Placement Cell, IIT Mandi, explained the factors behind this year’s increase in PPOs: “Providing strong internships has led to a significant increase in student PPOs. As the drive continues to is underway, these numbers are expected to increase in the coming months. Currently, there is a 23 percent increase in PPOs received to date compared to the previous year.”
Further said Dr. Tushar Jain: “As we see the PPO trend, we hope for a successful placement drive for 2022-23. The students of the UG degree programs that opened in 2019, namely Data Science, Engineering Physics and Bioengineering, are taking part in this year’s recruitment campaign. Students from these branches have also obtained PPOs.”
During the current academic year, the software analyst and data science sectors accounted for the most OPOs so far. The Institute has received one international OPE this year and expects more offers.
