Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has partnered with Garuda Aerospace and AGROB to jointly address the growing demand for indigenous drone pilots in India. Under this partnership, the goal is to produce as many as one lakh ‘Make in India’ drones by the end of 2023.
The joint research will be done in the field of software, robotics, digital solutions, drone pilot training, demos, other related areas in AI-based solutions and initiate joint (pilot) projects, read the press release of the institute. Students from the institute will be involved in the development of hardware and drone flight strategies.

Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee emphasized: “This collaboration will facilitate the joint development of Make in India Drones by providing innovative solutions. IIT Roorkee will focus on application-based solutions such as AI-based monitoring, and will be involved in developing delivering customized solutions for drones. Students are involved in the development of hardware and drone flight strategies.”
Speaking about the partnership, Prof Dharmendra Singh, Drone Research Center Coordinator, IIT Roorkee said: “Our goal is to develop a drone ecosystem through industrial partnerships and deliver value-added research inputs. Together we will move towards futuristic Developing AI drones, training and future-proofing farmers and AgriTech service providers, training roadshows and aeroshows for drones and surveillance technology are underway.”
