The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has teamed up with the Uttarakhand Police Department to host the Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2.0. It will be held in three phases – prelims, which will mark the launch of the website and the start of registration for the submission of solutions and ideas, after which there will be phases along a timeline for main courses and the award ceremony.
The Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon event website has also been launched at the Dehradun Police Station. Throwing some light on the event, Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand said: “Following the vision of Smart Policing of the Honorable Prime Minister, about 332 teams from all over the country took part in the inaugural edition of DEVBHOOMI CYBER HACKATHON organized by the Uttarakhand Police Force last year, this year we plan to organize the same event in which IIT ROORKEE is the knowledge partner and Tech Mahindra is the industrial partner.”

“Over the past 01-02 years, Uttarakhand Cyber Police has done a commendable job and now it is committed to find innovative technological solutions that will serve as a benchmark and shape smart policing. This year we have the participation of industry experts along with the students. I wish all participants my best wishes,” he added.
The need for a hackathon for finding technological solutions has been emphasized at times by the Prime Minister of India. “Uttarakhand Police has carried out the first successful Cyber Hackathon in the state of Uttarakhand, Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon, with utmost zeal and dedication to achieve the goal of SMART policing. Therefore, it will be the first state in Northern India to do this,” the institute said.

The website was developed under the auspices of IIT Roorkee and the Uttarakhand Police Force. Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand opened the website during the event. The mega event was graced by the participation of senior state police officers, MHA officials, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, director, IIT Roorkee and Mahindra team. Prof P Sateesh Kumar Peddoju and Prof Akshay Dvivedi of IIT Roorkee are coordinators of the event.
