Students who wish to study design and related courses of IITs will have to prepare for the entrance examination based on a new format. This applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate entrance examinations. IIT-Bombay, the exam organizing institute, has announced that the CEED and UCEED – postgraduate and undergraduate design entrance exams respectively will be held on a new paper pattern and syllabus. The respective syllabi are also available on the official websites.
From 2024, the entrance exam design will consist of two parts: part A and part B. Part A is administered through a computer-based test and consists of three parts (NAT, MSQ and MCQ). Part B will contain two questions: one about Drawing and the other about design skills. The question in Part B is displayed on the computer screen and the answer only needs to be written/signed in the answer book provided by the invigilator. The duration for part B would be 60 min, according to the official announcement for UCEED.
The exam is also split into two parts for CEED. Part-A will include questions on visualization and spatial reasoning, practical and scientific knowledge, observation and design sensitivity, environment and society, analytical and logical reasoning, language, creativity, art and design knowledge, and design methods and practices. Part B will consist of drawing, creativity, communication and problem identification, according to the official announcement.
The changes will apply from 2024 admissions and the exam to be held this year will be in the old format. Currently, the seat allocation is taking place for CEED and UCCED candidates. The results for the second round will be announced on 10 May. Those who are assigned a seat must accept their seat and pay the acceptance fee between May 15 and 26.
CEED and UCEED are course design entrance exams at the IITs. Through UCEED, candidates will be shortlisted for admission into BDes courses in IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (IIITDMJ). While the CEED exam is given by candidates seeking admission into MDes (Master of Design) or PhD programs. The UCEED or CEED score is valid for one year from the date of the statement of results.
