The Supreme Court has allowed Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main aspirants to submit comments regarding the National Testing Agency (NTA) decision to reduce the number of sessions of JEE Main 2022. This year, the number of chances a student will get the engineering entrance exam has dropped to two. Last year, students were allowed to try four times for the exam.
The court heard a plea filed by an aspirant and said the candidates could make their complaint by filing representation with the relevant authorities, LiveLaw reported.

The tribunal of Judges DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Bela Tiwari stated that the court could not interfere in the authorities’ policy decision, but petitioners can voice their concerns to the NTA.
The NTA had held 2021 JEE Main in four sessions, giving aspirants two additional opportunities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the additional attempts were withdrawn this year. In his plea, the petitioner had requested the intervention of the court arguing that a sudden reduction in the sitting of the entrance examination will increase the hardships of the candidates.
It further stated that numerous statements had been submitted to the NTA, but the examination bureau has not responded or considered the applicants that the exam will only be held in two sessions.
The plea argued that the change in the number of attempts was made at the last minute with the delivery of the order on March 15, while the exams will take place in April and May. The last minute change would disrupt the preparation of many aspirants.
The petition was filed by lawyer Sumanth Nookla on behalf of one Krishna Rana. The court rejected the request after the petitioner released the injured students.
The first session of JEE Main 2022 is scheduled for May 21, 24, 25, 29 and 1, while session 2 will be held between May 24 and 29. The registration process for the first session of JEE Main 2022 has already been completed and the admission cards will be issued to the aspirants shortly.
