Elaborating on the idea of academic improvement with the aim of improving society, the JNU VC further said that the idea of the university will always be to enhance intellectual capabilities and academic excellence for the betterment of society.
She also spoke about the qualities of equality and inclusiveness and its necessity in academic circles. The VC said JNU University has established a benchmark for other educational institutions in both academic and non-academic fields. She further appreciated the efforts of all JNU campus non-teaching communities for their contribution to making JNU “an institution for holistic development.”
Since the appointment of the VC, she has been surrounded by controversy. Recently, on the night of April 10, clashes and stone looting broke out in JNU during Ram Navami celebrations on campus.
Meanwhile, the JNU VC said in a recent interview with News18 that JNU is as nationalistic as any other university in India. “We are universal, but we are nationalists first and foremost. The Left (wing) also understands that things are changing,” she said, adding, “JNU is a secular institution and everyone here is JNUite fist and other identities come in later.”
