The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) staged a protest Monday to demand the allocation of hostels for first-year students and the restoration of the library and rubbish services. The protest took place outside the student counselor (DoS) office.
The students also protested the unavailability of a specialist at JNU Health Center, demanding that ‘dhabas’ remain open late into the night.
“It has been weeks since the university resumed offline classes and hostel rooms for freshmen have not yet been allocated. In addition, the dhabas that used to stay open until 2:30 a.m. now close at 11:00 p.m.,” said JNUSU Councilor Anagha Pradeep.
“There is no specialist in the JNU Health Center. We have demanded the university to reinstate the specialist service,” she added. Their demand comes in the wake of the death of a PhD student on March 21, who had previously complained of chest pain. student had claimed that he did not receive timely treatment by the health center and there was delay in referring him to AIIMS.
