The first exam of the Karnataka Board 2nd PUC was held on April 22. Surprisingly, on the first day of the exam, 7,856 students were absent. According to a leading daily newspaper, the number of absentees includes two students who disobeyed the dress code, as well as another protesting student with a hijab ban who failed to appear on the exam. Meanwhile, 2,18,673 students took their business and logic paper on the first day.
This year, about 6.8 lakh students had applied for the PUC sophomore exam. The exams are held at 1,076 locations across the state under heavy security, with officers stationed at each exam center. This step has been taken to ensure there are no unforeseen incidents involving students and the dress code. The exam lasts until May 18.

Karnataka’s Education Minister BC Nagesh had said the entire PU examination system would be under police surveillance and CCTV cameras would be installed for 24-hour surveillance. He also indicated that more officers would be present in Karnataka PUC 2nd year exam centers where large-scale exam abuses have been found in previous years.
No student is allowed to sit in the Karnataka class 12 exams without an admission card. Cell phones, electronic devices, watches and calculators are not allowed in the exam hall. The schedule for the 2nd PUC exam has been published on the official website — pue.kar.nic.in.
Other major highlights of this year’s PUC exams include the implementation by the Government of Karnataka of free transportation services for students. Students can take free buses from Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to and from the exam center.

Last year, the board achieved a perfect pass rate of 100 percent. There were 5,90,153 students who took the exam, of which 2,239 obtained 600/600 or full marks. The first-class grades increased by 30 percent compared to 2020. In addition, 1,95,650 students earned an award in the second PUC exam.
