The Karnataka government has reinstated 9,000 engineering seats from the final seat matrix, a day after the state higher education department advised the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to remove it due to irregularities by several colleges. According to reports, if the verdict is reversed, the same number of seats will again become available for allocation.
KEA had removed up to 9,000 KCET engineering seats from colleges and institutions. Seats available included MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, RV University and Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering.
KEA Director S. Ramya stated that the government has reinstated the seats provided the colleges receive proper certifications or no-objection clearances from the appropriate authorities.
Earlier, about 90 colleges got approval for new engineering programs from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) without government intervention.
