Forced to sit on mats in frigid weather, students at a Kathua-based government school on Monday urged the government of Jammu and Kashmir to provide them with reading tables and repair the broken windows of their school building.
The public primary school in Parnooh village in Banyari panchayat of Marheen tehsil has no desks for students. Broken windows of the school building add to the suffering of the students, who are forced to study outside in extremely cold conditions. “We appeal to the administration to give us reading tables because it is very difficult for us to study on mats in the cold weather conditions here,” said a student Khushi Kumari.
The students said it is unbearable to sit on mats on the cold floor. A villager, Sat Paul, said that the school building lacks window glasses and grilles to prevent cold waves from entering the classrooms and appealed to the authorities to take action in this regard.
