Bal Kalyan Samiti members, Omkar Singh and Anurag Pandey, had made a surprise visit to the school’s hostel on March 4 and allegedly found children being taught the Bible and taken to the church, police said.
The principal of a school in Mandla in Madhya Pradesh was booked and the hostel superintendent was arrested for allegedly teaching students the Bible and taking them to church, a police official said on Friday.
The case was registered based on a report by Bal Kalyan Samiti (Child Welfare Committee) Officer Yogesh Parashar after his team visited St. Joseph School in Ghoreghat Panchayat area below the confines of the police station from Mavai, the official said.
The suspects have been identified as school principal Father GB Sebastian and superintendent Kunwar Singh, he said.
“Singh was arrested on Thursday, while Sebastian went into hiding. We have applied for Singh’s pre-trial detention, but the court has yet to issue an order,” said Santosh Sisodia, chief of Mavai police station.

Singh and Pandey reported the matter to the ‘Kishore Nyay Board’ (Juvenile Justice Board), whereupon an FIR was registered against Sebastian and Singh under relevant sections of the Child Labor (Prevention and Regulation) Act, India’s Penal Code, the Juvenile Justice Act, Religious Freedom Act and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Sisodia said.
