Amid scorching heat, about 250 students from Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) staged a dharna outside the principal’s office on Saturday, seeking a reprieve from power cuts and water crisis. With empty buckets and tubs in hand, the students, mainly residents of the HMCH hostel, complained that a shortage of electricity and water was hindering their studies.
dr. SK Singh, the director of HMCH, said the question was 100 percent sincere and that he had sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay to resolve the crisis. The director also said that after becoming aware of the matter, the DC had instructed Executive Engineer Manoj Kumar to take the necessary measures.
Singh feared that students could get sick under such conditions. “We get power for eight to ten hours a day. A team of 30 teaching doctors is also grappling with the same problem,” he said, with peak demand rising in the sweltering heat.
