There are many people who want to serve their country. Many of them do this by joining the Indian Army, Air Force or Navy. There are also other ways to do this, such as representing the country in sports, participating in politics, running businesses and more. Anyone who gets an opportunity to serve the nation takes great pride in it. Recently Dr. Payal Chhabra, surgeon in the Indian Army, the first woman surgeon to join the elite Para Special Forces.
She received the Maroon Beret at a ceremony at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra. This achievement has brought a lot of pride to her family and they have showered her with all their wishes for her continued hard work and determination.
Major Dr. Payal Chhabra, a resident of Jind district in Haryana, completed her MBBS and then did her MS in Surgery. In 2021, the surgeon was posted for the first time as Captain of Ambala’s Army Hospital. Then, after completing her training, she became a senior doctor in the department of surgery at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College in Haryana’s Karnal.
She is currently working as a specialist surgeon at the Army Hospital in Ladakh. Before that, she was even posted to the army hospital in Khardungla pass, one of the highest hospitals in the world.
Payal revealed that the journey had not been easy for her. She had to undergo intensive training at the Agra Air Force Training School. She added that to join the paramilitary force, it is important to be physically as well as mentally fit. She further added that she woke up between 3 and 4 am during her workout. The commando training also consists of 40 kilometers of running with weights ranging from 20 to 65 kg.
Dr Payal Chhabra’s family revealed that she had worked very hard for the achievement she had achieved in her life. They also added that she even got offers from big multi-specialty hospitals but she refused them all as she wanted to serve the nation.
