National Testing Agency (NTA) takes care of all technical aspects for conducting JEE Main, Advanced (Representational/File Photo)
The Joint Admission Board (JAB) will now be responsible for setting rules and policies for the JEE Main, and they will also work with the organization that administers the JEE Advanced.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has ordered a redesign of the governance structure and administrative setup of the JEE Apex Board (JAB), which oversees the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The entrance exam is for students seeking admission into undergraduate engineering programs in IITs, NITs and other centrally funded engineering institutions and so on.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) takes care of all technical aspects such as software support and back-end tasks for both pre- and post-examination activities, including online submission of application forms. The official notice also states that NTA can collaborate with NIC/C-DAC if necessary.
Professor SK Jain, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), has been chosen as the Chairman of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The JAB will also consist of directors from various prestigious institutions such as IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, NIT Rourkela, NIT Surathkal, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT (PPP) Lucknow, IIITM Gwalior, as well as representatives from the state governments of Madhya Pradesh. , Assam, Manipur, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Engineering College, Chairman of CBSE, Director General of NIC, NTA and C-DAC, along with Additional Secretary/Joint Secretary (TE) of Ministry of Education, has been appointed member of the JAB.
As stated in the official notification from MoE: “The JAB would have a permanent secretariat which would be provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JAB would be assisted by the JEE Interface Group, comprising five members drawn from NTA, IITs and a senior representative from Indian Statistical Institutes (ISI), nominated by the Joint Apex Board.
This means that the Joint Admission Board (JAB) will now be responsible for setting rules and policies for the JEE (Main) exam, and they will also work with the organization that administers the JEE (Advanced) exam.
The NTA will help organize the JEE (Main) exams nationally by providing administrative and logistical support. The JAB’s permanent office within the NTA will utilize existing infrastructure, surplus financial resources built up since the establishment of the first JAB, and available manpower contributed by the current JEE (main) unit. If necessary, they may create some new positions, such as Executive Director, as approved by Cabinet/CEE, to meet the specific requirements of the job.
