The Madhya Pradesh Assembly said on Tuesday that the state government had distributed uniforms worth Rs 351 crore to students when the schools were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2020-21 fiscal year, school uniforms were distributed to more than 1.17 crore students in 50 districts of the state, Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said in a written response to a question from Congress MLA Panchilal Meda.
No data was provided for Mandsaur and Ratlam districts. The Congressional legislature has made inquiries about the distribution of uniforms when students study at home, as schools were closed during the pandemic. Meda also demanded a high-level investigation into the distribution work for rampant irregularities. In his response, the minister of school education said that “radio school” (online) was started for students in grades 1 to 8, while those in grades 9 to 12 studied under the Hamara Ghar Hamara Vidyalaya plan (our home is our school).
Parmar said self-help groups (SHGs) made these uniforms and distributed the same through the school board in accordance with the COVID-19 protocol. The minister rejected the demand for a high-level investigation into the matter and said any complaint received in this regard will be investigated by the department that manages SHGs.
